23 January 2008 Cell Book's Technology Makes Books Available on Mobile Phones
The mobile applications developer, Cell Book, has developed a new technology which allows books to appear on mobile phones, according to a recent news report. Publishing companies can now use the mobile phone platform as a medium for publishing and distributing books of all genres.
The new technology from Cell Book works in a remarkably simple fashion. Users can search for books through a keyword. A list of titles is then delivered to a user’s mobile and the user can click on the title links to download the book onto his or her mobile phone. There is no charge for publishers to provide books on mobile phones, and the technology is currently compatible with over 90% of mobile phones. Cell Book claims that the technology is as easy to use as sending a text message.
Cell Book already has a major deal with the leading South African publishing house, Lux Verbi Publishers. Cell Book has made its technology available to Lux Verbi through the deal that launched ‘Lux Verbi Mobile’. The partnership brings greater publicity to Cell Book’s technology, and the company is currently in the process of designing additional products related to mobile publishing.
Other publishing houses have also adopted Cell Book’s publishing technology for mobile phones. South African publishers specializing in religious books have shown the most interest so far. Publishers such as Struik Christian Books and New Holland Publishers have distributed over a thousand books via mobile phones within the first week of launching the technology.
Christian Mobile is one of Cell Book’s distributors. Marketing Executive at Christian Mobile, Bertus Preller, stated, “We are excited about the Cell Book technology as it allows every mobile phone subscriber the possibility to read an entire book on a mobile phone. Christian Mobile was the first company in the world to deliver the whole Bible on mobile phones via text-sms and distributed more than 50 000 Bibles, Testaments and Individual Bible Books through this medium in South Africa alone.”
Cell Book is a mobile application developer which began operating from Cape Town in 2007. Its innovative idea of bringing books to the mobile phone platform has received considerable interest in a short time. Cell Book develops its own applications from start to finish.
Christian Mobile was founded in 2004 and is a major distributor of religious content for mobile phones. Some of Christian Mobile’s products include phone wallpapers, animations, ring tones, and daily quotes such as Bible verses and prayers.
